Siôn Parkinson’s FACE CAGE, a half-hour song in which Parkinson sang and sampled his voice in real time. The effect was a combination of song, poem and anthem. The narrative of teenage autoeroticism and embarassment was amplified through repetition, shamanistic movement and altered vocals becoming a kind of folkloric imagining of modern life. Projected on the screen behind Parkinson was a sickly green image like something between a starry galaxy and a soupy pyschodelia simultaneously invoking an uncanny landscape and a sci-fi music video. Altogether these things created a kind of weightlessness in the room, in which the audience became witnesses or participants in a ritualistic retelling of chance encounters.
