Lauren Godfrey

In Lauren Godfrey’s piece the audience was asked to engage with Picasso’s only play ‘Desire Caught By the Tail’ The parts were given out to the audience read through the acts. Before the reading Lauren explained that the first read through of the play was with illuminati such as simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Paul Satre and Picasso. As we read through the dense text of the speakers, playing the characters according to Lauren’s description we occupied a shared space and time, with words not our own. The artificiality of reading from a script, responding to the room with words we were all reading, bread an artificial collective which became more real through our shared hearing of the play, being performed by those who were reading the parts for the first time, rceating something and reenacting something created by Picasso and those intellectual cognoscenti so many years before.
